I left the army in 2009. I wanted to purchase a home but learned that my SSN was reported deceased. After a long battle with the social security department I finally got enough proof that I was really alive. Turns out that they believe that when I was injured in Iraq in 2008 that “someone” reported I was KIA and my mother had even gotten a call from the Red Cross that I had died.
Now that you know the back story, I had to completely rebuild my credit. Veteran United actually help guide me with its credit building teams to rebuild my credit. It did take a little over a year but I got it in range to where I would get qualified for a home loan. Eventually leading to this very moment where I’m a home owner and just spent my first night at my new home! Thank you everyone who helped along the way!

I feel that the team did a fantastic job from the beginning until the last portion of the closing date; a lot of the team just disappeared or were completely unreachable at certain points when it was vital to have them on call and reach out to them. The first two months of working with my team felt really meaningful and important, but when it got closer to closing, things just became incredibly silent and difficult to get in touch with. While I understand emergencies and other complications, I did feel that we were being ignored or avoided due to questions with negotiations and prices, so it felt like we were getting swindled for a bit more than we were being led to believe. Overall, it was a great experience (albeit, super troublesome towards the end) and I would be willing to work with the team again years down the line, but I’d really appreciate better communication and information at the end point of when closing a house.

I learned of a property that might go for sale and just checked online for va loans to see about how much of a loan I could get to see if it was even possible. The Vetrans United one popped up and I put in my information. Within a day or two, I got a call from Josie and she told me how much i could get. I told her it would be a few months before I knew for sure. She told me to call back when I knew. Fast forward about 5 months and the seller was ready. The loan team said they could handle person to person sales without a realtor and that's what we did. A little over a month later and I just closed on my house. They made it very easy, and answered any questions I had quickly. I am very impressed with the job they did for me and would recommend them to anyone.
